That seems pretty awesome. Reminds me of the old Flash game CokeMusic where you'd create your own songs and play them for people in a room and they'd thumb up or thumb down your song (giving you points). You'd wait in line and play a song and then the next DJ would play... Gonna check it out.

Joe: Thanks for visiting my blog. I thought I'd return the favor. You have some good stuff going on here - a lot of marketing insights. I look forward to reading more soon.

Dollar Shave Club is doing a couple of things well here. As you mention, they're product creates value, but they also create value for customers by providing humorous and sharable content. Usually when a company tries to make something "viral" it's a recipe for disaster, but this is very well done. The entertainment value cuts through the noise of the internet and gets the message across.

I wonder if they are making sales equivalent to the amount of attention they are receiving.

Initially I set up a Facebook and Myspace account for attracting new clients but it almost immediately morphed to maintaining a superficial facade. Two years later I realized that silly updates geared toward the 95% of my on-line "friends" that I had never had any face to face interactions with was doing nothing to generate new business for myself. I deleted all my social accounts. In retrospect, all that I gained from the constant status checking and profile views was the knowledge that my time could have been much better spent.
